Parenting Groups

Parenting groups provide parents with an opportunity to communicate with each other and gather information to assist them in their parenting skills.

Project Bedtime Story

Sister Mary Ann Figlino provides weekly trips to the Denver County Jails to tape-record mothers as they read stories to their children.  The tape and book are then sent to the child or children to enjoy over and over the sounds of their mother as they fall asleep.  This program bridges the distance between incarcerated mothers and the children who are growing up without them.  In addition to comforting the child and mother, the effort also promotes literacy throughout the family.

The Mission of the Empowerment Program is to provide education, employment assistance, health, housing referrals and support services to women who are in disadvantaged positions due to incarceration, poverty, homelessness, HIV/AIDS infection or involvement in the criminal justice system.  Our goal is to decrease rates of recidivism by providing care management, support services, basic skills education, housing and resource coordination that can offer viable alternatives to habits and choices that may lead to criminal behaviors.

"The greatest danger to our future is apathy."

-Jane Goodall
